Why Not To Use Google Translate

Time??? Try Fuck!?

So this isn’t actually from one of my students but a good friend of mine sent me this the other day, completely baffled as to what one of her students had written.

Any ideas deciphering this little gem…….. No well here’s a great example why you shouldn’t blindly use google translate without double checking!

In this case the student had google translated “タイムトライヤル” (time trial) … However google split the ‘trial’ into ‘try yaru’.

Now yaru 殺る in Japanese literally means ‘to do’ however can also be read using 犯る…… Which is ‘to have sex with’

And so of corse google translated yaru into “fuck” hence “time try fuck”.

All the LULZ!!! (^_^;)

Tako: Ohhhhhhhh you mean ‘gamer’, ‘gay man’ means 同性愛.
~English Teacher1 looks embarrassed~
English Teacher 2: This is a kind of trap!

My Favorite Sausage Follows a Reason

20121129-午後123923.jpg

Oh god, Engrish lv 99!
One of my 6年生 (6th grade) students just asked me to correct his essay on Germany……. I couldn’t help but laugh.

My favorite sausage follows a reason very much and carries out it — going — therefore. Otherwise, it is a tablewa reset with a very sufficient handle.

Really……. this is what I imagine my Japanese looks like use google translate too ( ̄◇ ̄;)

Found this gem on Imiwa this morning, was news to me that this is how Japanese think we party down under, pretty sure this is the perfect example of lost in translation.

Well that and reading 7 chapters of Game of Thrones during a compulsory staff meeting I only understood the occasional word of (*^o^*)

I have made all 400 of my JHS students little ‘English passports’ of which they receive ‘visa’s’ for going out of their way to communicate with me in English 英語, for example writing me a letter which they can now ‘post’ to me!!
